The Scouten Sisters

I apologise for the melodrama of my last post, i've now broken up for Easter (yay!) and finally submitted the coursework that's been keeping me up until atleast 3 in the morning every night (then getting up at 6...not good). I'm just praying i get a good grade in it, as it was all a bit of a rush in the end. But moving on, i've got a heap of things swimming around in my head to do posts about, i'm really going to have to write them all down before i forget...

Anna & Sarah Jane Scouten

I've been a bit of a fan of Anna since last year, when i discovered her cover of Bon Iver's 'Blood Bank', and went on to watch all her other covers. She's just a regular (though really beautiful and talented) girl from British Columbia, Canada, currently living and attending university in Montreal. I happened to check her out on youtube for the first time in a while the other day to see whether she'd uploaded any more songs and happened to come across 2 videos of her posted by hereonoutsessions which 'showcases local Montreal music through one-take performances, live shows, interviews and documentaries'. I also noticed that they had a couple of recordings of her (presumably older) sister, Sarah Jane - one by herself and another with Anna. I hadn't known about Sarah Jane prior to this point, and quickly became a fan of her music aswell. I recommend you have a listen and see if you like what you hear, as i do, they're both unsigned and have different styles with their music and voices, both are strong but Sarah Jane's is more country. I think their voices sound beautiful together in 'Magpie Waltz'

This is the recorded version of the first song that Sarah Jane plays in the above video, 'My Goddamn Country'. You can listen to it and other on her Myspace:

Lots of love
