StyleCard: JCS Vader's Sneakers

It is a shoe you kind of have to have in your wardrobe, that retro sport sneaker that seems to keep showing up all over the grid. The Vader's come in multiple white/color combos, and an all black pair, which I especially like. Grab a pair here.

StyleCard: JCS... For The Boys

I have always tried to share a wide range of footwear on the blog, different styles, creators and collaborations, but what tends to be missing is shoes for the male avatar. They are out there, and some of them are really well made, but it's a bit hard to blog men's footwear when you are definitely not a male. Eponymous Trenchmouth of Jeepers Creepers Shoes (JCS) inquired if I would be able to review his latest releases, and I was happy to oblige, with the help of a very accommodating Dave Casanova... thank you, Dave!

These 2 new styles are great Casual shoes, the Miami Shoes and the Kix Shoes are a lace up style with a hint of an oxford feel and some athletic shoe inspired stripe detail. On the Miami the tan leather contrasts with the softly colored canvas that comes in soft 'Miami Vice' pastels; Peach, Blue, Cream and Sage.Golden grommets and white laces complete the style. The Kix Shoes feature richer tone-on-tone styling in shades of Green, Red, Black and Blue with color matched laces and soles.

Both of these styles can be found at JCS Shoes Main Store.

Rigger from JCS

Following on from the recent Axion release, Eponymous Trenchmouth of Jeepers Creepers has updated an older boot in his range with the renewed version of the Rigger boot.

This Boot is a more heavy duty workboot style, and it comes with the same resizing option as available in the Axion and other recent JCS releases.

My personal favorite was the Black Cherry version, as they were the version in which I could see the smooth texture in all its glory. They were also a nice match to these Shai pants I was wearing as well, so I didn't even need to change.

The range of colours is comprised of Black, Black Cherry, Brown, Desert Camo, Field Camo and also a work boot option, which has a light tread instead of black. I was almost tempted to go find a brickie's labourer outfit for these boots, but time was against me in that quest although if I ever stumble across one, I will wear one with these boots for sure. All in all another release that increases once again the versatile JCS range and a welcome addition to any mans shoe collection.

Axion shoes from Jeepers Creepers

The latest release from Jeepers Creepers, the Axxion boots are in essence, some of the more versatile shoes to emerge from Eponymous Trenchmouth to date. Upon getting these shoes, I tried the blue pair on with the outfit I had on, and I was so impressed with how they matched to what I had on already, I immediately cammed them just like the shoe fiend I am, relishing in the details.

As we come to expect with every pair of JCS shoes, the texturing is first rate and in some ways these boots remind me of a laceup pair of Oslos, although the buckle and strap almost gives me allusions to the Nikes that were popular in the 1990s, but in the instance, instead of being primed for the basketball courts, these boots are made for something more like trekking thru rugged terrain.
The detail on the leather parts of these shoes is totally amazing, featuring ultra realistic creases just like a pair of boots in RL would have. I totally scratch my head at how once again Eppy can come up with such realism in his shoes, and I urge you to take a look in world to see what I mean.
I played around with the different colours seeing what pants I had in inventory to match the various shades and of course I found these pants from Shai's Southern Comfort suit to be the perfect match for the Sand coloured boots. So even though these boots are more gritty and urban, the use of suit pants showed they can be more versatile than first impressions could lead to.

The Gray coloured pair, with its two tone grey and black leather, reminds me of the Air Jordan IX, I had to play basketball as a teenager. These are one of my favorites colours but they are also available in the Black, Blue, Sand, Olive and Brown. As always I recommend the fatpack just for versatility.

Edit: I have been informed by Eponymous that these shoes can also be used by women as well as men. Just click on them to get the resize script (which I overlooked to mention as the default size fit me perfectly) and set to the smallest setting to fit your av as needed.

Another item I would like to draw attention to is the new Prince Abioye ring from Alienbear Designs. This is the first ring for men from Alienbear, and I must say it is nicely detailed and features a huge diamond perfect to let people know you have style and class.

Havana sandals from JCS

Eponymous Trenchmouth dropped me these new sandals from JCS the other day and due to being a little busy with things on the weekend I kinda forgot I had them in inventory until now. But I tried them on and these leather sandals certainly caught my attention, yet I just needed a place to shoot them!
So a quick tp to the Las Arenas Rosadas sim and I was good to go, and I knew that these sandals would be the perfect fit for the endless sunshine provided in SL, and it provided a good opportunity to let my mostly ensconced toes feel the cool breeze upon them. Heck, its Winter in Australia in RL at present, but why else would I come on SL other than to escape my climate?
As you can see in the pictures these sandals combine Eppy's superb craftsmenship and texturing once again, and the stiching looks so damn realistic you too will be wondering if you have teleported to a deserted island in RL as they are that damn good!
These sandals only have the one size in the folder, so at first you may be asking what happened to the other sizes? Well these sandals are scripted with sizes from XS to XXL large so all avs are catered to!! However I just went with the medium and a foot size of 35 and they fit perfectly, so I would recommend this for most avatars and considering they default to this size, you probably won't have to change them, however having the option to if need be isn't a bad thing.

So if you are looking for some sandals to wind down Summer in the Northern Hemisphere or the impending warm weather of us in the Southern one, tp to Jeepers Creepers new mainstore today!!

Shoes for the surfer in you........

Today Eponymous Trenchmouth of Jeepers Creepers released these new shoes in time for the shoe fair in a beachy theme that kind of struck me in a place in my heart that thanks to SL i have neglected alot in RL, and that is the beach! There are 3 different styles, Finz, Mavericks, and Reef Rider.

The Finz style I am wearing here is the Sea Grass colour and they are your classic Summertime open sandal. They are bright enough to capture attention but not of the wrong kind if you know what I mean. When I picture a sandal like this, it reminds me of the Reef Brazil ads in Surfing magazines. Trust me, if you have ever seen a Reef ad, you won't soon forget it.

The Mavericks shoe is less of a sandal more of a shoe. These are the 'Ice' colour I am wearing and as you can see, they have a rugged rubber-like texture that gives an impression of strength much like the legendary big wave Californian break which I assume it is named after that killed Hawaiian big wave charger Mark Foo way back in '94 (just to give you an idea of how strong the break is). these are probably the most versatile due to the strange shoe/sandal hybrid-ness of their appearance, so they could be worn with either jeans or shorts.

Finally the Reef-rider featured here in Red is another shoe/slipper hybrid that appears to have a spongy like texture with a steel strap. I wished I had a shoe like this when I was climbing the rocks down to Supertubes in Yallingup one day when I kicked my toe and ripped off most of the layers of skin and procceded to walk like a cripple the rest of the surftrip back in the day. Anyway, I must say these new releases are some cool casual footwear styles available at Jeepers Creepers. There are multiple colour options available, this is just a small sample so get on down to JCS today and give them a try!! Jeepers Creepers at the shoe expo & Jeepers Creepers mainstore

Chips & Beer

Being a guy isn't always about being dashing and suave. In fact, some of the best fun you can have is when you give up on that completely. Enter Eponymous Trenchmouth's bowling shoes, called "Strike". Seeing as we seem to be on something of an Eponymous Trenchmouth "streak" lately, I thought I might as well throw in this review of one of his best pieces of work to bookend his interview.

The Strike is a marvel in that it captures an element of male character that isn't exactly right off the pages of GQ, but has a certain charm and (in a hard-to-describe way) some sex appeal. What could be more symbolic of the American male icon than a pair of bowling shoes... bringing to mind chips, beer, the sound of crashing pins echoing through the room...? It's one part of American culture that's worth preserving and wearing as your own.

The workmanship of these shoes is absolutely stunning. As is typical of Trenchmouth's work, the textures are so well-made that to look at it you can almost feel the leather under your fingertips. The shoe comes in black & red or blue & red (blue & red is really the cool one, if you ask me). Honestly, you could not ask for finer work than this... not just in the stitching (which is perfect) and the laces (which are so realistic that you can almost touch them), but the shoe even has the patent leather sole for crying out loud. This shoe will go exceptionally well with casual wear, especially when you're "in character" with a circa-1950's shirt and even a loud pair of slacks. At first, one might think there's no real sex appeal to it, but I disagree; geek chic is very hot right now and if you can wear it with some confidence I think you'll find the impact is excellent.

Unfortunately, the shoe suffers from some mild problems with "muffin top" shaping, i.e. that the top of the shoe kind of "puffs over" the bottom. It's a very subtle thing and hard to see, but it's there. You'd be nuts to turn down a great shoe like this for a trivial flaw of that sort, but... very close examination will reveal the limitations of prim-based shoe building.

Part of good male style is understanding that humor and flare is as important as fit and fabric. These shoes communicate great style and taste while being a bit bold as well. Put them on for a friend's house party or a night out with the boys. Wear them with confidence and they'll make you look fantastic.

An interview with Eponymous Trenchmouth

If you're noticing the name of Eponymous Trenchmouth all over this blog, there's a reason; in the world of Second Life where good men's shoes are kinda hard to find, Eponymous has made it something of a goal in life to bring better footwear to the males of the species. Electing for a more mature, dare I say "adult" style over the flashy, trendy styles of his peers, Eponymous creates reliably great shoes and boots with a lot of taste and the occasional dash of flare. You'll notice me looking at a range of his stuff over the next little while (which is available at Jeepers Creepers), but I wanted to take a few minutes out and ask some questions from the man behind the sole.

On Your Toes: Give us a thumbnail sketch of who you are and what you do.
Eponymous Trenchmouth: My name is Eponymous Trenchmouth and I've been in SL since November 2005. At that time there was very little in the way of shoes for men and I introduced my first shoes - the crepe-soled "Jeepers Creepers" - in February 2006. Since then I've introduced many men's and women's shoes, although recently I've begun specializing in men's shoes, where I see much more room for new styles and ideas.

OYT: What kind of things are you working on at the moment?
ET: At the time of writing, I'm working on men's slippers!

OYT: It's a commonly-held belief that men have fewer decent options in Second Life where fashion and accessories are concerned. What's your take on that?
ET: Thanks to people like Ben Vanguard at SLMen and Ryan Darragh at Men's Second Style, attention has turned to the world of men's fashion. This has inspired designers, like myself, to focus our energies on creating the best products for Second Life's diverse community. I see SL as a place where people can experiment with their "look" without spending tons of RL money. For this reason, I like to push the design envelope a little, to introduce new styles and ideas. Hopefully this will rub off into RL, and we can get away from the ubiquitous and boring jeans and sneakers.

OYT: How does your own creative process work?
ET: My designs begin in RL on a yellow pad, where I doodle away my ideas. In SL I begin with the shape: I try to make my shoes as lifelike as possible, though given the ugly bulges on our avatar's feet, this does require some concessions to the shape. When I'm satisfied with the shape, I begin working on the textures in Photoshop. I've developed a technique that allows me great control over the placement and size of details like stitches and seams, and using Photoshop's Layers, I can create different colorways quite easily. Nevertheless, this is a time consuming process and on some shoes, I have uploaded over 100 textures before I'm satisfied that the shoe is as good as I can make it.

OYT: Which shoes from your own work are your personal favorites?
ET: If I could buy my black suede Oslo elastic-sided boots in RL, I'd be a very happy man.

OYT: What kind of advice would you give to men who want to make good decisions for footwear in SL?
ET: 1. Always try the Demo version before you buy.
2. Unless you're going barefoot, reduce the size of your feet to 20 or less. (I hate to see feet poking through the side of a fine shoe).
3. Make sure you wear the shoebase with the shoes.
4. If you want to wear boots under your pants, don't bother wearing the leg portions.

For The Boys

The work of a shoe blogger in SL is never done, it's not all glitz and glam and great shoes - sometimes you have to watch very, very, pretty boys strut their stuff on the runway. Today was that day, as KaDeWe had it's debut show of 2008. It featured the fantastic footwear of Eponymous Trenchmouth's Jeepers Creepers and it was a truly great show executed by the KaDeWe team and it's male models.

Epo, as he is referred to by those who are fortunate enough to know him, and his Jeepers Creepers are already favorites with the 'On Your Toes' shoe crew - but seeing these shoes on the runway really enhanced my opinion of this great footwear. I lagged and eventually crashed out on the finale of the show, so here are the few photos I did manage to take and am happy to share with you now. Make sure you visit Jeepers Creepers main store or one of his many satellite locations, including the KaDeWe Mall, to see the full collection. Be sure and check out the OSLO Boots that Joel reviewed for us previously. As a side note, ladies if you want to see your SL guy in some nice shoes - all of Jeepers Creepers shoes are transferable, so they make great gifts for your shoe challenged fellas.
